Lansing Art Gallery rolls out from ´Toledo to Detroit´

The Old Indian Trail runs between Toledo and Detroit. Lansing Art Gallery has brought it a bit farther north.

The “Toledo to Detroit” exhibit features the work of artists Jeanne Bieri, Martine MacDonald and Nancy Patek, each of whom visited the area and presented her own interpretation of it.

The Lansing Art Gallery has done similar exhibits in the past, such as one focusing on the Lake Superior area, but it´s unusual to have three artists all interpreting one theme, said Lansing Art Gallery executive director Catherine Babcock.

The exhibit, which includes paintings and photographs,  is meant to tell the story and history of the downriver area of Monroe County through three perspectives.

The Lansing Art Gallery has done similar exhibits in the past, such as one focusing on the Lake Superior area. Babcock said.

For example, one artist talked to several people in the area and took their portraits for her contribution. Another blended pictures of old houses with historical figures, while another focused on landscapes of the area.

Lansing Art Gallery is holding a reception for the exhibit at 7 p.m. Friday. The artists will be present.
