Internships at Forbes’ Best Companies

Every year Forbes releases a list of the top 100 companies for employees.  These companies offer positive work environments and several benefits that contribute to employee satisfaction. Fortunately for students, many of these companies have internship programs for those interested in getting experience in various work environments. These are the programs offered by the top ten companies:

1.       Google

It’s well known that Google is a great place to work, so the fact that it’s number one on Forbes’ list should come as no surprise. The web giant is well-known for its employee-friendly offices with a gym and hang-out room.

Google offers several engineering internships for students from majors such as math, physics and computer engineering. Interns work on projects such as networking systems and large-scale storage systems. They are expected work full-time and commit to work for at least three months, although start and end dates are flexible around college semesters.

2.       SAS

SAS is privately-held data analytics firm based in Cary, North Carolina. The company prides itself on fostering creativity in its offices and recently planted an organic garden to provide fruit and vegetables for the employee cafeterias.

SAS offers a summer college program for current students. Participants are teamed with mentors and work with management on various business-related projects. They also have the opportunity to attend professional training sessions. Benefits include subsidized meals, unlimited snacks, access to the fitness center and, best of all, a salary. 4. Boston Consulting Group

This management-consulting firm has over 75 offices around the world but, as the name suggests, is headquartered in Boston. The firm is committed to service and offers new consultants the option to delay their start date by 6 months and be paid to work at a non-profit.

BCG offers a two to three month summer program for students interested in learning more about the consulting business.  Interns get to work on actual client projects and while being mentored by consultants. The program aims to make sure interns get an in-depth view of the consulting business by attending training sessions, working with clients and participating in office events. 6. NetApp

NetApp is a data-storage company based in Sunnyvale, California. The company makes a point of thanking its employees. The vice chariman personally calls close to 20 a day to let them know their work is appreciated.

The company has a summer internship program for degree-seeking students interested in computer science and engineering. The three month summer program accepts students with experience in various operating systems and who are comfortable writing code. Positions are available in California, Colorado, Kansas, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Full details and a link to the application can be found on the company’s website.

8. Edward Jones

Securities firm Edward Jones has over 11,000 offices, but that does not stop company employees form remaining close. Regional offices regularly get together for fun activities such as ice skating.

The firm has two internship programs. The first is the Headquarters Internship program located at the company’s St. Louis and Tempe, Arizona offices. Applicants can choose from positions in areas such as service, finance and products. Interns participate in social activities such as community service, job shadows and baseball games. The second program is offered at various Edward Jones offices and is available for any student interested in learning more about becoming a financial advisor. Participants are paired with a financial advisor mentor and are assigned various projects. Both programs are full-time and last ten weeks. Applicants must be finishing their sophomore or junior year and have at least a 3.0 GPA.

10. Camden Property Trust

 Camden Property Trust is one of the nation’s largest property management firms with offices across the country. The company has a carefree environment and is known for throwing practical jokes.

The company offers a paid 10-week internship programin several major US cities. Interns are expected to have an interest in sales and customer service and receive experience in areas such as marketing, management and leasing. Applicants must be full-time students with at least a 2.7 GPA.
